In the charming city of Fishers, Indiana—a place famous for the Nickel Plate District, beautiful parks, and a humid summer air so thick you can practically chew it—lived Robert. Robert is a neighbor of ours, residing just a stone’s throw from the Superior Bath System headquarters. He had a bathroom that could best be described as “intimate.” If you’ve ever tried to change your mind in a space the size of a standard elevator, you’ll understand Robert’s daily struggle.
The Challenge: Claustrophobia in the Crossroads
Robert’s original bathroom was a masterclass in 1980s “compact” design. The space was so tight that the shower curtain was essentially a second skin, and the bathtub had become a precarious obstacle course involving step-stools and safety rails that looked more like a jungle gym than a relaxation station.
The window, while providing a lovely view of the Indiana sky, was covered by a tired, white curtain that did more to trap moisture than provide privacy. The beige tiles and dated oak cabinetry were doing no favors for the room’s perceived size, making the small footprint feel even smaller—like trying to fit a Pacers home crowd into a local coffee shop.
The Solution: The Superior Sleight of Hand
Since we couldn’t physically push Robert’s walls into his neighbor’s yard, we had to get creative. Our team at Superior Bath System decided to go “Bright and White” to trick the eye into seeing more room than actually exists.
The Transformation Strategy:
- The Tub Swap: We ditched the cluttered, rail-heavy tub for a sleek, deep-soaking white acrylic bathtub that looks modern and clean.
- Wall Wonders: We installed high-gloss, floor-to-ceiling white wall surrounds. This eliminated the dingy grout lines of the past and replaced them with a seamless look that reflects light—perfect for those gray, overcast Indiana winter mornings.
- Window Wisdom: Out went the soggy curtain; in came a gorgeous, frosted glass block window. It provides total privacy from the neighbors while letting in that glorious Hoosier sunshine.
- The Details: We added streamlined shelving and modern brushed-nickel fixtures, including a sturdy, stylish grab bar for safety without the “industrial” look.
The Outcome: From Curbed to Curated
The result is nothing short of a Fishers miracle. By removing the visual “noise” of the old fixtures and opening up the light through the glass blocks, the bathroom feels significantly larger without moving a single stud.
